MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: OFF / FLAT

1. FUTURES: Down slightly in the pre after two solid days, NSDQ -0.24%, DOW -0.35%, SPX -0.14%

 

2. ASIA: Markets are set to log a  2nd week of gains, optimism over softening in the US stance on China

 

3. TREASURY: 10-year yields remain elevated, reflecting persistent doubts over US policy credibility

 

4.GOLD: Investor sentiment remains cautious: gold held firm, Gold/S&P 500 ratio hit its highest since 2020,

 

5. USD: Posts its first weekly rise in over a month amid waning volatility in global markets.

 

6.TMUS(PH) tanks -6.5% pre, in Q1 on news that it had 495,000 postpaid phone additions versus the 504,000 wanted. Earnings and revenue for the first quarter topped Street estimates. This could be a buy. 7.SCHW:(PH)+1.05% pre, after GS upgrades to buy, calling Schwab "resilient growth stock amid uncertainty

 

8. GOOGL: (PH, core) +3.72% pre, Q1 tops expectations. $2.81 per share on $90.23B revenue for the quarter, while analysts surveyed by LSEG had estimated $2.01 per share and $89.12 billion in revenue.

 

9. ABBV: (PH Core) jumps 3.4% pre, despite reporting Diluted EPS of $0.72 (GAAP), a Decrease of 6.5%

 

10.META: (PH, Core) +2.37% pre, cuts staff in Reality Labs division, however, tech sector in general is up.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Thursday 24 April 2025​

                                                                       

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: MIXED

​

1. FUTURES: After yesterdays MEGA rally, finished off the highs, NSDQ +0.11%, DOW-0.34%, SPX-0.04 %

 

2. ASIA: Markets were mixed, with Japan’s Nikkei gaining while the broader MSCI index declined 

 

3. EUR: Struggled amid declining business sentiment in Germany, France & UK, dampening confidence

 

4. GOLD: Close to record highs, reflecting ongoing unease despite some strong corporate earnings.

 

5. UBER: PH, up slightly, announces partnership with VW, thousands of all-electric, fully autonomous ID. Buzz AD vehicles within multiple U.S. markets over the next decade, starting in LA. Tesla?? 

 

6. LVS: PH, initiated a share repurchase program on Wednesday, to repurchase $2.B in shares or 8.2% 

We bought some more last week. LVS is cheap and pays a solid dividend.

8.MRK; PH, +1% pre, Q1, $2.22ps on rev of $15.53B. 2.14ps & $15.31B expected. cut outlook "tariffs"

 

9. NOW; PH +10% pre, reports $4.04 ps on $3.09B revenue, $3.83 ps & $3.08B expected. Need to listen to the call to see if they will be impacted by DOGE or tariffs, but looking good, especially EPS

 

10. CMG, PH, flat after initially falling 3.5%, posting weak revenue and disclosing its first same store sales drop since 2020. $2.88 billion Q1, under the $2.95B wanted EPS beats by 1c. Still adding stores.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Wednesday 23 April 2025​

                                                                       

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: ON

​

1. FUTURES: Are looking to build on yesterdays relief rally, NSDQ +3.1%, DOW 1.97%, SPX 2.57%. 

 

2. ASIA: Rallied as investor sentiment rebounded following PTDs softening rhetoric on China tariffs.

 

3. IMF: Downbeat global growth outlook and lingering tariff concerns tempered the optimism. These things change quickly so don't read too much in to this, a deal with China (likely) will change this.

 

4. BONDS: Markets mixed, long yields fall & curve flattens, investors dial back expectations of rate cuts.

 

5. USA: Rebounds, PTD comments on not firing Fed Chair Powell, main man Scott Bessent reaffirms.

 

6. BA. (PH) bounces 6.5% pre, reported narrow loss for Q1 $31m, improvement on $355m loss in Q1 last yr. 49c ps was better than the $1.18 expected, CEO to ask FAA to increase production of 737 Max

8. LLY: PH _2.3% pre, files lawsuits against 4 telehealth companies selling compounded versions of its weight loss drug Zepbound and its diabetes treatment Mounjaro, accusing them of deceiving consumers about “untested, unapproved drugs” and turning them away from Lilly’s products. 

 

9. GEV: PH +9.21% pre, company maintained its 2025 financial guidance despite an expected hit from tariffs of up to $400 million, forecasting revenue of $37 billion and FCF of up to $2.5 billion this year.

 

10. TSLA: +7.5% pre, is this a joke?  Q1 missing, earns 27c ps on revenue of $19.34B,  far below the 39c ps and $21.11B analysts wanted. Elon says time at DOGE will decline “significantly” beginning in May.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Tuesday 22 April 2025​

                                                                       

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: ON

​

1. FUTURES: Green Bounce afetr yesterday sell off, NSDQ 1%, DOW 0.91%, SPX 0.88%

 

2. ASIA: Relatively stable, capital flowed out of US equity funds into Asian and European equities

 

3. OIL: Ticks up slightly as short-covering met persistent worries over a global economic slowdown.

 

4. GOLD: Surges to a new record of $3500 an ounce, buoyed by the weakening USD and growing demand for safe-haven assets as investor confidence in US financial stability eroded. 

 

5. USA: A sell-off in US assets driven by political pressure on the FED, by PDT attacks on Chairman Powell for not cutting rates. This has raised concerns over the Fed's independence. Too much, too far!

 

6. GE: PH, +4% pre, reports adjusted earnings of $1.49 per share, beating the $1.27 per share anticipated by analyst. Revenue, however, came in just shy of expectations. Can it hold on to the gains?

8. AMZN: PH core, +1.72% pre, does it matter? -3% Mon, delays some commitments of new data center leases, particularly international, Wells Fargo" Amzon is the leading providers of cloud infrastructure"

 

9. HERTZ: Falls again, the rental car company rallied 112% last week on Big Bill Ackman’s investment in the company. PS took a 19.8% stake in Hertz with outright share ownership and total return swaps. 

 

10. GOLD: PH Barrick rises in the pre, announcing it reached an agreement to sell the 50% interest in the Donlin Gold Project in Alaska to Paulson Advisers LLC and NOVAGOLD Resources Inc. for $1B cash

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: OFF

We start the week offering blessing and thoughts to the Pope who died today. God bless him.

 

1. FUTURES: Dow leads the market lower as concerns linger NSDQ -0.81%, DOW -1.29%, SPX -1.01%

 

2. USD: ICE USD index, which measures the greenback against a basket of foreign currencies, fell as low as 97.92 on Monday. That’s the lowest level for the index since March 2022, according to FactSet.

 

3. OIL: Crude falls on recession fears. Don't read too much in to this. What a opportunity to buy CVX

 

Call the Police, there is a MAG7 murder happening.

 

4. TSLA: -4%, Barclays cut its price target on Tesla, citing “confusing” visibility into first-quarter earnings.

 

5.AMZ: -2% pre,Raymond James’ downgrade, outperform from strong buy? CRAZY! "Tariff headwinds"

9. AAPL -0.27% pre, uncertainty surrounding PDT tariffs. Apple is down more than 11% in April. 

 

10. NFLX: +1.85%, Q1earnings and revenue beat. Sees no significant impact from tariffs. Increased PT's
