PHILANTHROPIC INVESTING CLUB

  WITH  PAUL CONNOLLY

NAV 14 January 2025: 98.59 Per Share.  Gain 30.11% - SPX500 28.19%

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Friday 21 February 2025

PERFORMANCE 30.11%(PTC) - 28.19%(SPX)

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: CAUTIOUS BUY

1. ASIA: Japan's inflation climbs to 4% in Jan, the highest in 2 years. Consequences: rates rise, Yen firms

2. GOLD: higher for 8 weeks straight. Taking our Barrick Gold higher with it. Will Elon get into Fort Noks?

3. OIL: set for its best week since Jan and taking portfolio holding CVX with it. Supply concerns and potential OPEC+ delays are the likely cause. Oil companies have been trading sideways for sometime now.

4. COIN: Portfolio Holding, new addition after blow out earnings, today announces SEC ending enforcement case. +5% in the pre. Not a done deal and still needs commissioners approval

5. UNH: Port/Hold tanks 8% in the pre. WSJ claims that it's under investigation by the Justice Department (again). It claims the protocol for recording diagnosis can lead to extra payments from Medicare advantage plans. Sounds like a DOGE finding to me but as yet unconfirmed. I suspect it will blow over

6. MELI: South America's version of AMZN reports a blowout quarter, up 15%, EPS. $12.61($7.93 expected), Revenue $6.06B ($5.88b expected), we own EWZ which is a Brazil ETF, MELI is a big player in Brazil and sends a positive signal for Brazil's economy. USD strength keeps EWZ from breaking out.

7. BLOCK: formerly known as Square, (founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, formerly CEO of Twitter) trades under the ticker XYZ is down 10% in the pre, despite beating estimates. All payment providers out of favour including portfolio holding PYPL, which has struggled to get a footing since reporting on 4th despite a beat

8. NVDA: Port/Hold (CORE) CEO Jensen says DeepSeek is good for them, according to him the value of NVDA chips come in post training. We have thought this for some time & believe DS would strengthen US companies' resolve. We used the dip to take the other side of the trades. NVDA report next week.  If you would like to know before we make a trade or receive this moving and shaking report to your email, then please go to our website and subscribe. Alternatively, would like us to manage some funds for you completely free of charge please go to Etoros copy trade feature

9. DELL: Reduced to $145 from Citi, we exited our DEL positions this week as we aren't assured by the price action & some of the metrics no longer fit our investing profile. A lower valuation may present an entry

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

The only thing that stands between you and your wellbeing is a simple fact: you have allowed your thoughts and emotions to take instruction from the outside rather than within.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Thursday 20 February 2025

PERFORMANCE 30.11%(PTC) - 28.19%(SPX)

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: CAUTIOUS BUY

1. EUROPE: we have some selling pressure on concerns of PTD tariffs on autos, pharama & lumber.

2. RATES: Dont expect rates to come down soon, as long as the economy can sustain growth at these levels their is no need for the FED to reduce. FOMC minutes suggest they are in wait and see mode.

3. ASIA: China held its LPR rate steady for a 4th month, despite this BABA up 10% in the pre after earnings beat of Net income 48.95B yuan (40.6 expected) on 280.2B yuan revenue (279.34 expected)

4. WMT: Portfolio Holding is down 7% in the pre after issuing weaker than expected guidance, I warned in my report on 14th (we took profits) that we're concerned about Tariffs, today they confirmed this.

If you would like to know before we make a trade or receive this moving and shaking report to your email, then please go to our website and subscribe. Alternatively, would like us to manage some funds for you completely free of charge please go to Etoros copy trade feature? Cancel any time

5. Carvana: comes down to earth despite an earnings beat. It has been unstoppable despite a short sellers report claiming its falsifying its accounting with friendly companies owned by family members

6. PLTR: Another hot cookie falls in the pre -3% after -10% yesterday. Its made a lot of money from the war in Ukraine that could now be coming to a close. Need to understand what percentage of revenue it gets from the defence budget if your thinking about this one. The CEO is one of a kind.

7. GRAB: reports and disappoints, down 4% in the pre. It had high expectations going in to this, we like this at $4.5, the sector is volatile and concerns of Tesla Robot Taxis always moves the needle.

8. SNOW: gets a price upgrade from BTIG to a buy at $220 imply a 18% upside from here.

9.BHC: Port/Hold is up 5% in the pre following a 2.4% rise yesterday, This is a legacy stock for us making up less than 1% of our portfolio doesn't take major shareholder IEP (Port/Hold) up with it.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

In mediocrity, there is comfort, but no joy. In going beyond your limits, there is joy, but maybe no comfort. You have to choose.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Wednesday 19 February 2025

PERFORMANCE 30.11%(PTC) - 28.19%(SPX)

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: CAUTIOUS BUY

1. ASIA: Japan export growth accelerated while China new home prices fell (The China price fall is the lowest in 6 months). These bring with it optimism and Asia markets where mostly in the green today

2. RBNZ: cuts interest rates by .5% to 3.75% in an attempt to stimulate an economy that has slowed.

3. UK: Jan CPI comes in hotter at 3% YoY. They lowered rates too quickly. More criticism for Rachel Reeves and the labour government. The UK is a failed system, uncontrolled immigration & censorship.

4. HOUSING: Many headwinds for this sector at the moment, mainly rates too high & tariff concerns. Tol -5.33%, DHI -2.2% Len -2%. Len spun off MRP (we got some shares) +1.46%. MPR is worth a look

5. CE: Portfolio Holding reports & its a disaster all round -20% in the pre, the outlook was even worse. Execution is terrible, new CEO S. Richardson has a mountain to climb, he thinks the 2nd half could be better, makes up less than 0.2% of our portfolio so not a big issue for us. Listen to the IR call before buying

6. HEES: Port/hold (CORE) we bought this in an arbitrage play for its take over by URI. Yesterday however HRI came in with an increased offer of a combination of cash and stock, causing the stock to rise 15%. If you would like to know before we make a trade or receive this moving and shaking report to your email, then please go to our website and subscribe. Alternatively, would like us to manage some funds for you completely free of charge please go to Etoros copy trade feature? Cancel any time

7. CRM: Port/Hold (Core) has its PT cut $30 by Loop to $330. We would consider adding at $314.

8. HHH & Bill Ackman, the drama continues, once a board member of HHH & still a major shareholder he originally wanted to buy 11.8m shares at $85ps, now it's 10m shares at $90ps.Confused? So are we. We stay away from things we don't understand & suggest you do the same, HHH will be volatile going forward

9.SEDG: Up 36% in the pre, with a top line beat, port/hold FSLR rises with the news, these green energy companies have been getting squeezed, uncertainty over the new president, we don't think solars a problem

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Gratitude is not an attitude. Gratitude is something that flows out of you when you are overwhelmed by the recognition of what you have received.

What’s Moving and Shaking markets, Tuesday 18 February 2025

PERFORMANCE 30.11%(PTC) - 28.19%(SPX)

MARKET SENTIMENT RISK: ON

1. ASIA: Markets traded lower on profit taking after the RBA introduces its first rate cut since 2009

2 Europe: is the green on hopes of the war in Ukraine ending, US and Russia officials to meet this week

3. SNOW: this loved tech stock up 3% in the pre after getting an upgrade from Wolf. This $62B company still hasn't had a full year of positive earnings and it's been around for sometime now. Revenue is growing.

4.  BAIDU: Portfolio Holding and our only chinese company  (except LVS)  is down -4.6% in the pre. They claimed to have an AI called Earnine that can rival the best. Outlook lower than expected.

5. DELTA: Port/Hold, down .5% in the pre after Friday's 2% bump. One of its planes comes off the tarmac in Toronto. Of course the mainstream fake news likes to make an obscure link to DJT Admin and US ATC.

6.  LUV: on the other hand +2% after reports it will lay off 15% of its corporate staff, this is sorely needed to reduce what is unmanageable overheads for this low budget carrier. Could be worth a look +10% upside

7. AVGO/TSM: Both PortHold, both core, are allegedly in talks to buy Intel. I would have thought that DJT Admin would have blocked this deal like they were initially opposed to the X/Nippon Steel deal but apparently not. I don't see the upside for our two taking on this disaster. We won't be chasing this rumour.

8. CITI: Port/Hold(CORE) -0;5% in the pre after +3% friday. BAC goes to $100 ps. 15% upside and a 2.5% div for waiting.
